Foreword

"Yi·Li Shi Shang": "Look up to astronomy, look down to look at geography, so you know the clear."

Han Kangbo's note: "Those who are clear are tangible and invisible." Wen Yipei seems to be vigilant enough about "abstract" and "figurative", or he is hesitant about the concept, so that his painting practice always looks for balance and alienation in existing factors and relationships, and presents things between tangible and intangible. He completely escaped from the perspective into the most secret indoor space of daily life. Rooms, stairs, electric lights, walls, doors, windows and passageways have all become the objects of painters's tireless depiction.

In fact, through the shaping of the image and the flat processing of the space, Wen Yipei cleverly liberated the image from the concept, so that we can feel the faintly touchable existence and temperature from the picture, and at the same time bypassed the pure form of the whirlpool under the premise of retaining the readability of the image.

This kind of self-centered and intentional processing and grasp of the image broadens the dimension of the image itself that can be perceived and viewed. The image is processed to a degree close to geometry in the picture, establishing a distance from the concrete real scene. At the same time, the shape based on extreme simplification artificially fills and enriches the gap of gaze and imagination after figurative.

There is no doubt that the painter presets and virtualizes a viewer's context at the same time through the use of form and color language, so as to eliminate the interference of details and purify the color elements. In order to lead the audience into the psychological space shrouded in the appearance scene through the obscure appearance from form to concept. In this regard, Wen Yipei seems to have established a secret psychological theater for the viewer through painting as a medium, so that the viewer's emotions can be immersed in it, which also means that the artist's personal consciousness and practice are self-sufficiency.
