One always relies on mountains. The protection brought by mountains is not only the basic survival support of material abundance, but also the guarantee of spiritual stability. When there are mountains, there is vitality and a continuous inheritance. This is the protection of mountains for our people. As the most constant presence in human life, the Taoist concept of naturalism symbolised by mountains and water has coexisted with the development of the times for thousands of years. Ancient people cultivated themselves in the pure spirit of nature by following“Mountain Art”, or lived in seclusion in the comfort of “Beholding the southern mountain in the sunshine, the white dew lingers in a misty haze.” The mountains are a metaphor for the inner world, a place of light where warmth, tolerance and love support our reactions to the outside world. Each individual energy converges and dissipates, so that all the places are moisturised by this dazzling warmth. The same is true of the feather's protection of the bird, the support of life is the commonality that flows inward. Yue Yichuan has refined and transformed the functional overlap of feathers and mountains to create a series of new works. The intertwining patterns of various avian feathers, radiantly figurative plants, and the striking colours of the silks bring a sense of healing.

The pure simplicity of the silk paintings comes from Yue's studies in traditional Chinese painting. Between these rational and balanced senses of order, there are also vibrant and bright leaps. The colour of white implies the property of light: the grating can be scattered into various and different colours, but eventually converges back to the ultimate white. Amidst this, a consciousness of life emerges, just as those small vibrant and lively sculptures of Lingzhi in the middle of the gallery. The fluorescent Lingzhi contrasts strongly with the refined colours of silk, but in this seeming contradiction there exists an interdependent relationship that points to unity. The colour powder of Lingzhi is scattered like fungal spores. Are you also infected by this luminous and gorgeous piece?
